Washing machine: common problems
Not draining
A blocked pump filter, a kinked hose or a blocked sink trap
Not spinning
An unbalanced load, a drain problem, overloading, spin settings or the motor
Not heating water
A failed heating element or temperature sensor, limescale, a board fault — or simply an Eco programme
Not filling with water
A closed tap, low pressure, a blocked mesh filter, a kinked hose or a faulty inlet valve
Leaking water
The door and seal, the detergent drawer, the pump filter, hoses, too much foam or an internal leak
Noisy or shaking on spin
Transit bolts, an unlevel machine, an unbalanced load, a foreign object, bearings or shock absorbers
Door will not open
Water in the drum, the lock has not released yet, the child lock is on or the door lock is faulty
Will not turn on or start
No power, the socket or breaker, an extension lead, the door not shut, Start pressed too briefly, child lock
Bad smell
Low-temperature washes, the wrong detergent dose, a wet door seal, a closed door, a dirty filter and drawer
Trips the breaker or RCD
Earth leakage, heater, motor, suppressor, wiring, water on an electrical part, an extension lead, an overloaded circuit
Too much foam
Too much detergent, the wrong type, soft water, pre-soaked clothes, detergent build-up
Not taking detergent or softener
A dirty drawer, a blocked compartment, filling above MAX, low water pressure, pods in the drawer
Takes too long
Load sensing, an unbalanced load, low water pressure, too many suds, wet laundry, a dirty pump filter
Detergent or stains left on clothes
Too much detergent, an overloaded drum, a blocked hose or filter, softener in the wrong compartment, hard water, rust…

Bad smell

Will not start
