Tumble dryer not heating: causes and what to do
If the dryer drum turns but the air inside is cold and the laundry does not dry, the cause can be simple: overloading, a clogged fluff filter or a full condensed-water tank. Samsung explains that in these cases the air does not circulate, so the dryer cannot heat and dry properly.
If maintenance does not help, the heater, the thermal fuse, the temperature sensor or the heat pump has probably failed — that is a job for a technician.
Likely causes
- an overloaded drum: according to Samsung, it restricts air circulation;
- a clogged fluff filter — a dirty filter blocks the airflow and reduces heating;
- on condenser dryers, a full or dirty heat exchanger (condenser);
- a full water tank — the dryer stops until it is emptied;
- a blocked air outlet or no ventilation around the machine;
- a blown thermal fuse — Samsung notes that replacing it requires a professional repair;
- a faulty heater, temperature sensor (NTC) or board;
- on heat pump dryers, a fault in the heat pump or the refrigerant circuit.
Safe steps you can try
- Make sure the dryer is plugged in and getting power.
- Reduce the load and spread the items so air can pass freely.
- Clean the fluff filter in the door.
- Empty the water tank.
- Clean the heat exchanger (condenser) if your model allows it — especially when the cleaning indicator is on. Bosch advises rinsing it with water once a month and not cleaning the heat pump yourself.
- Check that the air outlet and the space around the machine are not blocked.
- If the display shows an error code, look it up in your model's manual.
When to call a technician
Call a technician if the air in the drum stays cold after cleaning the filters and emptying the tank, or the error code keeps coming back. Samsung notes that a blown thermal fuse and a heat pump fault need a professional repair.
A MasService technician will test the heater, the thermal fuse, the sensors and the board — and the compressor on heat pump dryers — and name the price before the repair.

Frequently asked questions
Why does a heat pump dryer feel cooler than a regular one?
Heat pump dryers work at a lower temperature and take longer — that is normal. If the laundry does not dry at all, check the filters and the tank, then call a technician.
What is a thermal fuse?
It is a safety part that cuts the heating if the dryer overheats. It often blows because of clogged filters. Samsung states that replacing it is a job for a specialist.
Can I use a dryer that does not heat?
The drum will turn but the laundry will not dry. Clean the filters and the tank first; if that does not help, it needs a diagnosis.
