E17 Arçelik washing machine E17 error: too much foam

What it means

According to Arçelik, error E17 means the programme ended without spinning because of foam. The machine detected too much foam and did not spin the laundry, so it may still be wet.

It is usually not a fault: the cause is almost always the detergent — too much of it, or detergent that has gone damp in the drawer.

Likely causes

Why E17 appears:

• too much powder or liquid detergent, especially concentrated;
• detergent that got damp and caked in the drawer;
• a hand-wash detergent instead of a low-foam one for automatic machines;
• detergent residue in the drum from earlier washes.

Safe steps you can try

1. Drain the water: run Drain or empty it through the pump filter.
2. Take the laundry out. If there is foam on it, rinse it and run a separate spin.
3. Clean caked detergent out of the drawer.
4. Run the drum cleaning programme with no laundry and no detergent. If your machine does not have one, Arçelik advises a 90 °C cotton cycle.
5. Next time, dose detergent as the pack says and add it just before the wash.

When to call a technician

If E17 appears with a normal dose of low-foam detergent and after cleaning the drum, Arçelik advises contacting service.

The technician will check the water level sensor, its tube and the drain: sometimes the machine wrongly detects foam because of a faulty sensor or a poor drain.
